How To get job in Kolkata

Kolkata lacks big time in lucrative, challenging and well paying jobs. If you are searching for such a job then the best advice would be to leave Kolkata.

But if you want a job which will help you to make your ends meet and make a decent saving  plus give you enough leisure to perfectly balance professional and personal life then kolkata is the place for you. put up your profile in Linkedin, timesjob, Jobs - Recruitment - Job Search - Employment - Job Vacancies - Naukri.com and with some senciere effort you might land up a job.

Kolkata is the place if " you love what you do" and not the other way round i.e "do what you love"

What is your definition of a decent job?
Unlike what most people think, jobs are available in Kolkata. It depends on what you are looking for. This is what I can think of right now.
  • If you are a doctor, you can get jobs in hospitals or set up your own clinic.
  • If you are an accountant, you can join a Big Four or smaller accounting firms.
  • If you want to work in a bank, just take the relevant bank examinations and apply.
  • You can always create jobs for yourself and others by setting up your own business.
  • Procter & Gamble, Unilever and other companies have offices in Kolkata. You need an MBA to work in these companies, in the field of marketing.
The questioner is studying engineering, so I will be elaborating about engineering jobs. If you want an IT job at TCS, Cognizant or IBM, you can get those easily. It is just that the quality of the work and the environment will not be that great. Be prepared for petty politics in the workplace.
If you want to work in core companies (many of which are under the government), you need to take the GATE exam and appear for the interview.
If you want to work in a product based company, or jobs other than IT, you have to move to other metros. This is something that Kolkata does not provide.
You will get decent jobs in Kolkata. It is just that the quality of work and the work environment might not be to your liking. For better quality work and healthier work environments, I would suggest that you move out of the city.
